The Way
- Never Talk Back to Sensei.
- No Horse Playing during class.
- Do not wear jewelry in class.
- Go to the bathroom and get water
BEFORE class, do NOT ask during class unless it is an emergency.
- If you arrive to class late, stand
to the side and wait for sensei to bow you in.
- Always wear you complete giàthis
includes a Headband.
- Always bow when entering and
existing the dojo.
- White belts with 3 stripes and up
should have all their patches on their gi.
- No one is allowed to fight without
sensei’s permission.
Maintaining Traditions of a Dojo
- Bow when “greeting” each other (senseis
and students) it is a sign of mutual respect.
- Advance kyus should come to class
early to help sensei teach.
- Brown Belts should teach at least
one class a month with sensei’s permission and/or supervision.
- The sempai of the class, leads
that class… you are on his or her count and you listen when they speak (tell
you to do something).
- Always, Always, Always, KEEP THE
FIGHTING SPIRIT in everything you do à
katas, drills, breaking, everything!
- Remember the 3 Rules of the Dojo:
from the highest ranking black belt to the lowest kyu, we all live and
continue to live by these rules.
- When someone yells GoJu, you yell
oos! ( We are proud to be in Karate).
- When you are hurt, tired, in pain,
sick and achy, yell oos! ( for we will not quit, nothing is impossible).
Participating in Events
- Competition- try to go to at least
one shiai and one open tournament a year. It is fun, you get to test you
abilities, and get to meet (even become friends with) people from other dojos
and styles. It also boost one’s confidence and answers the question “Sensei,
how do I know I am ready?”
- Goju Events- try to participate in
events that are held outside of the dojo: The Goju Cruise, The Goju Picnic,
The Goju Carnival, The Goju Beach Workout etc. Some of these events include a
workout and some of these events are just about hanging out and having fun
with karate people. Bring your family and friends if you want, the more the
merrier!
- Fundraisers- we may not always
want to do it, but look at the big picture – it’s for a good cause—please
support it.
